We inaugurate the new section "In print" browsing through the beautiful "Capa in Color" catalogue.
Published by the International Center of Photography and DelMonico Books / Prestel, 2014 on the occasion of the exhibition Capa in Color. Curated by Cynthia Young for the ICP.
Hardcover, 10.5" x 12.5". 207 pages.
“Capa in Color” (check out our previous post here) was undoubtedly the highlight amongst the celebrations for the hundredth anniversary of Capa’s birth.
The volume collecting the exhibition’s photos is just as remarkable, in terms of attention to detail and inclusiveness.
The text by curator Cynthia Young is the perfect introduction to Capa’s world “in colour” and his scanning through different locations, eras and themes.
The layout recalls certain vintage elements of the magazines for which Capa shot his assignments, with peculiar chromatic references - especially in the use of primary colours and in regard to general composition.
Great focus is given to tag-lines and the scanning of the original pages of the magazines, which reveal the editing and editorial context through a number of texts written by Capa himself.
It’s certainly a significant editorial product that equals the exhibition’s standards. It presents images with high accuracy and a certain retro feel, which exquisitely matches the spirit and design of the clients of that time.
