Hollow

Hollow è un documentario interattivo che racconta il declino e il progressivo spopolamento dell'America rurale, attraverso più di 60 anni di storia americana. Mescolando suoni, fotografia, video, materiali d'archivio e dati informativi Hollow restituisce una visione complessa di un fenomeno poco alla ribalta dei media, attraverso un'esperienza di interazione suggestiva. Le foto, i video ritratti ed i materiali girati dagli abitanti della comunità si alternano in un racconto insieme didattico ed emotivo, realizzato dalla documentarista ed artista multimediale Elaine McMillion, fortemente impegnata nella creazione di media partecipativi.

Elaine McMillion ha partecipato a numerosi festival internazionali e collaborato con istituzioni quali l'Open Documentary Lab dell'MIT. I suoi lavori sono stati segnalati da testate come il New York Times, L'Atlantic, Filmmaker Magazine.

Hollow is an interactive documentary about the decline and progressive depopulation of rural America over the course of 60 years of American history. Merging together soundscapes, photography, data visualizations, archive materials and informative data, Hollow produces a complex overview of a phenomenon that stays out of the limelight - and it does so through an online experience of suggestive interaction. The photos and videos taken and community-generated content are combined together in a tale that is simultaneously educational and emotional. The documentary is scored by documentary filmmaker and multimedia artist Elaine McMillion - who is strongly committed in the creation of participatory media.

Elaine McMillion has participated in a number of international festivals and worked with such institutions as MIT’s Open Documentary Lab. Her works have been highlighted by papers such as The New York Times, The Atlantic and Filmmaker Magazine.
