Refugee Republic è un documentario cross-platform che mostra la vita di tutti i giorni nel campo di Domiz, nel nord dell'Iraq.
Domiz accoglie circa 58000 rifugiati, prevalentemente curdi siriani, che hanno gradualmente trasformato il campo da luogo temporaneo - o almeno così dovebbe - in una sorta di città, con piccoli negozi e scuole, dove le persone vivono, lavorano e cercano di costruire una vita il più possibile "normale".
Prodotto dal quotidiano olandese De Volkskrant e Submarine Channel, Refugee Republic è stato realizzato da un team composto da Dirk Jan Visser, fotografo, Jan Rothuizen, disegnatore e Martijn van Tol, giornalista.
Il risultato è un mix innovativo di informazione e interazione, immagini, musica e disegni.
Tra i finalisti del IDFA 2014, Refugee Republic ha da poco vinto il premio Zilveren Camera per il fotogiornalismo innovativo.

Refugee Republic is a cross-platform documentary showing everyday life in Domiz Camp, Northern Iraq.
Domiz Camp receives about 58000 refugees, mainly Syrian Kurds, who gradually transformed the camp from a temporary refuge to a real town, with small businesses and schools, where people live, work and try to conduct an almost "normal" life.
Produced by Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant and Submarine Channel, Refugee Republic is made by Dirk Jan Visser, photographer, Jan Rothuizen, illustrator and artist and Martijn van Tol, journalist.
The result is an innovative mix of information and interaction, images, music and drawings.
Finalist at 2014's IDFA , Refugee Republic just won the Zilveren Camera prize for innovative photojournalism.
